The MentorMT program addresses Montana's critical rural teacher shortage by providing expert mentoring for new or underprepared rural teachers.
Established in September 2021, MentorMT offers innovative grade- and subject-aligned mentoring for new or underprepared rural teachers by matching them with skilled Montana educators who provide individualized support for teaching, learning, and student/teacher well-being. In Montana as in the nation, staffing rural schools in a time of critical teacher shortages may mean hiring teachers with limited knowledge of content, pedagogy, or culture in the area(s) where they are assigned to teach. We recruit and train experienced and engaged Montana teachers to provide one-on-one mentoring that includes instructional guidance, curricular support, reflection and goal-setting, and productive problem solving of issues related to students, schools, and communities.
