Symposium Guidelines
This is an overview of the responsibilities and duties students will have during MSSE Capstone Week. Please read the following information carefully.
Orientation
The Symposium Week Orientation will take place in in the morning on the first day of Capstone Week. This session will include important information about capstone week and graduation procedures, along with a continental breakfast. Please come prepared with any questions you may have. Double check when this event is scheduled. Arriving on time is essential to ensure you don’t miss key details.
Capstone Presentation
Capstone presentations will take place throughout Capstone Week. Immediately following your public presentation, you will meet with your advisors for your private comprehensive exam. Please plan to dress in professional or business casual attire for your presentation.
Capstone Facilitation
Students attending Capstone Week on campus are assigned to facilitate a peer’s presentation. Please reach out to the student you’re facilitating for through the Canvas course and Canvas Inbox to coordinate how you can best support them.
Facilitator Responsibilities:
1. Facilitate the Attendee Prize Drawing
Distribute name slips to attendees.
Collect slips before the presentation ends.
Draw and announce a winner.
2. Presentation Introduction
Introduce yourself.
Introduce the presenter by sharing their name, location, school, and teaching assignment.
Introduce the graduate committee members, noting who is present in person and who
is attending virtually.
Read the presentation title aloud.
Include any additional remarks or tasks the presenter has requested.
Capstone Observations
Attendance is required every day during Capstone Week. You must observe at least 12 presentations, with a minimum of three per day. Your own presentation and the one you facilitate will count toward this total.
