Description

This award recognizes one professional or classified staff member at Montana State University who has made significant contributions to academic advising. This award will closely follow the National Academic Advising Association’s core values and criteria for their National Outstanding Advising Award.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this award, nominees must be a permanent professional or classified staff member whose primary duties are academic advising with a 0.5 - 1.0 FTE. Nominees must also have been in their advising-focused position at MSU for at least one year.

Faculty academic advisers, graduate student advisors, previous winners and members of the selection committee are not eligible for this award.

Selection Criteria

• Strong interpersonal skills, including a caring attitude toward advisees, faculty, and staff.
• Commitment to engage in developmental advising as compared to prescriptive advising.
• Skill in guiding and supporting the student’s journey and academic development.
• Reliable and consistent availability to advisees.
• Support for student progress toward graduation and career goals.
• Demonstrated outreach and initiatives to support student success.

Please submit your nomination, including a narrative which details how the individual's advising work is worthy of recognition:

 

Individuals are limited to one nomination, however, multiple individuals may contribute to the nomination, with student support highly encouraged.  Please limit supporting materials to no more than five pages in total.  These nomination materials will be shared with the nominees.  

The review committee will contact the nominee directly for additional information.
