Review January Action Items
- PAAC voted via email on the 1% for Art Policy, which was approved on 01/20/2021
- PAAC voted via email on the Wellness Center – Art Locations, which was approved on 01/20/2021
- The link to the MSU PAAC website was updated in the PAAC Sharepoint group
- MSU Art Inventory was updated with new information
- Action Item: PAAC to continue to send MSU art inventory information to Courtney Johnson
- Action Item: Royce Smith to research the policies regarding the acquisition of student art and the legality of the ownership
Art Submission Process
- Broken link in the Harrison Hall Call for Submissions limited the number of submissions
received
- Action Item: Melissa Ragain to extend the deadline on Harrison Hall art submission and re-post the call for submissions
- CPDC has been working with Ivan Navarro and the MSU Alumni Foundation to continue
advancing the Bobcat Athletic Complex (BAC) project
- CPDC and the MSU Alumni Foundation are coordinating on the project’s implementation
- Ivan Navarro will provide a formal proposal and updated rendering for consideration
- PAAC previously voted to approve Ivan Navarro’s proposal for the Bobcat Athletic Complex
- Installation of the art piece is slated for the end of August 2021 in time for the opening of the BAC
- Committee discussed standardizing the process for the art projects at MSU
- CPDC is creating procedural documents for this purpose
- PAAC previously created a Call for Submissions template and a submissions webpage
- Further discussion by PAAC is needed on the proposals process and if it will be effective
to bring in artist submissions
- Further clarity on advertising, proposal requirements, timeline for submissions, review process
- Potential advertising/informational opportunities: MSU PAAC website, social media, MSU Communications
- Action Item: Richard Rudnicki to create a draft of the procedural policy which outlines the steps for creating and advertising a Call for Artists, choosing locations for art, determining funding, and the review and approvals process
1% for Art
- The PAAC 1% for Art Policy was brought to UFPB on February 2, 2021, where it was determined that more discussion was needed with stakeholders
- PAAC was advised that the policy will continue to be discussed and not to expect a quick formal adoption by MSU
- Some current projects will be informally adopting the 1% for Art Policy
Wellness Center Art – Funding and Acquisition
- Richard Rudnicki presented the financial component of the Wellness Center Art project
- The subcommittee determined the art funding will be divided into two categories: Professional
Art and Student Art
- The Professional Art category will be comprised of a Signature Piece, located in the “Commons” area, and Supplemental Pieces
- The current budget for the Signature Piece is $100,000 and the intention is to fundraise
for an additional $350,000
- The fundraising will need to be completed by March/April 2024
- Fundraising will be done by the College of Art and Architecture in conjunction with the MSU Alumni Foundation
- Action Item: PAAC to vote via email on the updated Wellness Center Art – Funding and Acquisition policy
Romney Hall Art Submissions
- Courtney Johnson presented a summary of the final artists selected by the Montana Arts Council selection committee for Romney Hall
- The selection committee will be meeting on March 8th to identify the locations for the art in Romney Hall
- The final budget for the project is $85,000 with an additional $15,000 allocated to mount and secure the artwork
- Action Items: Send comments on the location for the pieces of the final selected artists to Courtney Johnson
Reschedule March PAAC Meeting
- Olivia Hayes will work to reschedule the March PAAC meeting
- Many PAAC members were amendable to finding a new time for this recurring committee meeting
ACTION ITEMS:
- PAAC to continue to send MSU art inventory information to Courtney Johnson
