Item 1: Russell Chatham Print Relocation

Sarah Knoebl, Campus Planner presented a proposal to relocate the University’s collection of Russell Chatham prints. 12 prints are currently located in the 3rd floor study area of Renne Library and must be moved for the Research Alliance Spaces Project moving into the space in summer 2023. Caleb Fey, Art Gallery Director has put together a relocation proposal for 11 of the 12 prints with the elimination of one due to years of UV exposure.

  • Evan Burnett questioned what will happen to the piece recommended for removal.
    • Caleb Fey stated since the print is so badly damaged from UV exposure it would be best to reuse the frame and dispose of the actual print.
    • Caleb also mentioned depending on the insurance, a claim could be filed.
    • Richard said PDC will check with MSU insurance folks to identify next steps
    • Caleb said that the print can be stored with other art and artifacts until understanding of the insurance process.

The Russell Chatham print relocation proposal was unanimously approved by PAAC with the caveat of finding out the insurance situation.

Item 2: Gianforte Hall Integrated Art

Richard Rudnicki, Planning Manager presented Gianforte Hall Integrated Art plan. Gianforte Hall is currently in the schematic design process. PDC will be issuing an RFQ to identify an artist to work with the Gianforte Hall design team in April 2023. This art will be integrated into the building façade, glazing, landscape, or other building elements. Two decisions must be made today. First elect two PAAC members to sit on the Art Selection Committee.

  • Keely Holms stated she would serve on the committee
  • Josh DeWesse offered to serve on the committee but questioned whether Caleb Fey could serve on it.
    • Richard stated that Caleb would first need to be nominated by the Dean of Arts and Architecture, be approved by PAAC and then UFPB. Richard added that PAAC can preemptively approve Caleb Fey pending Royce’s nomination.

The second decision PAAC must make is an approval of the integrated art budget. Based on precedents, $375,000 have been allotted for the integrated art piece with $125,000 remaining for specific art pieces to be chosen later on in the design process.

The budget as proposed was unanimously approved.

Item 3: Election of Caleb Fey to the vacant College of Arts and Architecture PAAC seat

Richard will reach out to Royce Smith for a formal nomination of Caleb Fey. Caleb has years of experience as a curator and museum director.

The appointment of Caleb Fey was unanimously approved – pending formal nomination from Royce Smith, Dean of College of Arts and Architecture.
