PAAC Minutes - July 1, 2020

ITEM No.1 – BAC Public Art Budget & Outreach
- The Bobcat Athletic Complex art budget will remain at $80,000.
- PAAC Committee will continue to look for an artist to contract for the project.
- COVID-19 is lengthening the process for finding an artist.
- The art will be a stand-alone project and thus will not be held to the same timeline as the BAC renovation.
ITEM No.2 – Art Contract Language
Presenter: Jaclyn Liebscher
- Force Majeure language was created to be used as standard language in future Artist contracts.
- The inclusion of the clause will protect MSU and the artists.
- This language was approved by MSU legal council.
- No objections were voiced by the PAAC Committee, so the Force Majeure clause will become standard language in all contracts forthwith.
ITEM No.3 – Harrison Hall Public Art Opportunities
Presenter: Jaclyn Liebscher
- PAAC Committee members agreed to approve this location for public art at MSU.
- The scope of the project will be determined at a later date.
- The Committee expressed a preference to involve underrepresented groups and/or use student artists for this art opportunity.
- Action Item: Contact student groups to determine if they have interest in pursuing a project with the space and investigate funding possibilities. (Royce Smith)
- Action Item: Finalize the 1% for Art fee. (John How)
ITEM No. 4 – Romney “4” Sculpture
Presenter: Candace Mastel
- Candace Mastel of Campus Planning, Design and Construction presented a proposal to move the “4” Sculpture from its current location in order to accommodate the redesign of the Romney Oval area.
- The proposed location is within the vicinity of the “4” Sculpture’s current location and will eliminate issues that could arise from the sculpture’s current proximity to a new planned pathway.
- Kris Johnson motioned to approve the “4” Sculpture relocation.
- Keely Holmes seconded the motion.
- PAAC Committee voted to unanimously approve the relocation of the “4” Sculpture.
Lincoln Gateway to Campus – Shroyer Gym
- The wall of Shroyer Gym was identified as a possible location for public art.
- PAAC Committee previously expressed a desire for art that reflects wellness themes beyond sports.
- Action Item: Compile more background information on this potential project.

Discussion
- The MSU rocket sculpture that was located at South 8th Avenue and West College Street was demolished many years ago.
