Informational – Introduction to the Wellness Center and Proposed Art Locations

  1. Grant Petersen presented the current design of the Wellness Center and highlighted many potential locations for art
    1. Options include empty walls, locations for suspended art and display cases
    2. Potential locations for art are both in and outside the building
    3. Some locations would need to be integrated with the building design, but wall art could likely be easily added after construction is completed
  2. Committee discussed using a hybrid approach to acquiring art: utilizing a call for proposals and approaching artists directly
    1. PAAC has flexibility to determine the approach because the Wellness Center is not a state project
    2. Action Item: Committee to do an RFQ and make it publicly available and distribute to specific artists
  3. If a display case is installed for a rotating art selection, PAAC discussed the importance of linking that space to someone to manage the display
    1. The space above the fireplace in the main hall was highlighted as a good opportunity for a display case
      1. PAAC discussed using that space to showcase student art
  4. Committee discussed the importance of creating a clear Collection Mission Statement
  5. The common hall and the University Health Partners are were identified as preferred locations for art
    1. Action Item: Committee to help determine which image to use on the perforated wall in the common hall
  6. Action Item: Richard Rudnicki and the CPDC Planning team will work with Royce Smith, Maggie Kerr and Elizabeth Anthony to create a proposal for PAAC with locations to review in January.
