Description of Request

Submitted By: Jason Bolte & Nathan Stark

The School of Music requests additional storage and supporting work space to address constraints in Howard Hall. Currently, instructional spaces (Rooms 130 and 143) and a mechanical area are being used for storage, limiting their academic functionality and violating safety codes, as noted by the Fire Marshal. To address this, staff recommends repurposing a portion of the former University Printing space in the basement of Culbertson Hall. This unoccupied area is suitable for storage and related activities such as uniform and instrument maintenance, as well as providing directional flow between rooms to optimize uniform pick-up. Minor modifications, including wall installations between rooms 012, 012A, and 012C, will allow for effective use of the space without major financial investment. This solution supports the relocation of non-instructional storage from Howard Hall, improving instructional space quality and addressing ongoing facility challenges within the School of Music.

Resolution

Date: May 2, 2025

Space Management Committee has approved the allocation of a portion of the former University Printing space, rooms 012A, 012B and 012C, to the School of Music for storage purposes.
