MSU's Counseling & Psychological Services and Student Wellness provide a variety of opportunities for Suicide Awareness and Prevention Training.

Training

ACT to Prevent Suicide

This one-hour, in-person training discusses how to recognize signs of mental health distress in yourself and others, and how to ACT: Acknowledge, Care, and Tell. Basic skills and on-campus/crisis resources are discussed. To register for a class, visit the registration page. If you'd like to schedule a presentation for groups of 10 or more, email the CAPS Outreach Team or call CAPS at 406-994-4531. 

 

SOS-Signs of Suicide Online Training

This 30-minute online training teaches students, staff, and faculty how to recognize signs of distress/suicide and how to provide support and referrals. 

  1. Visit the SOS website and click “Create Account”
  2. Provide name, email, and chosen password and click “Create”
  3. Enter the redemption code MSU and click “Next”
  4. View your dashboard and choose either:
    1.  Students:        SOS for Higher Ed for Students
    2.  Faculty/Staff:  SOS for Higher Ed for Faculty/Staff

 

Mental Health First Aid

MHFA is an 8-hour course that provides instruction on how to support someone experiencing  a mental health crisis or substance use challenges. It provides evidence-based information regarding mental health and substance use problems to help de-stigmatize these issues. Those who attend the course are certified in Mental Health First Aid for 3 years. For information about upcoming MHFA Training Sessions, email the CAPS Outreach Team.
